This is one thing which many buyers feel very strongly about. Most of the surveys have also shown a general inclination of buyers to go for domestics if other factors are similar. However as you can see from the list below many of the car models do not have a domestic maker. The basic reason is the high usage of domestic parts by these cars. The iconic F-150 is totally off the list as its American made parts percentage fell from 80% to a mere 55%. Toyota has been the surprise with 3 models in the top 10. Honda has been able to get 2 models in the top 10. GM's models – The chevy silverado and also GMC Sierra- were a common stay in the list. However with the production now being split between U.S and Mexico the total American made parts reduced to only 65%. Guess we will need to have a new definition of domestic cars.

The top ten American Made Index list:

1. Toyota Camry
2. Honda Accord
3. Ford Escape
4. Ford Focus
5. Chevrolet Malibu
6. Honda Odyssey
7. Dodge Ram 1500
8. Toyota Tundra
9. Jeep Wrangler
10. Toyota Sienna

it is really strange and bad that even parts of domestic companies are not having domestic parts, however given a choice very few buyers would like to put their hard earned money in a product they think will not give them adequate amount of value. hence if the try to increase the value of the product than invariably outsourcing many of the parts comes huge on their list.

it seems it is a sort of a vicious circle where if they dont do outsourcing their products wont be sold and if they do then the products themselves are not american thus lowering them in this index and taking away their loyal customers.
