Fuel cost is one of the major expenses and everyone should try to reduce them as much as possible both from environment point of view and because it is good for one's pocket.

Here are few tips you can try to reduce your fuel bill:

1. Moderate driving is better: It has been known for long and has been tested also that all cars have a ideal fuel efficient speed. The more you remain in that range the greater your fuel saving. According to recent tests the total savings can be as high as 30% as against a more aggressive driver. You can try this yourself for a month and you will feel significant fuel bill reduction. For every additional 5 mph you drive beyond 60 mph it is like paying $0.25 per gallon extra for gas.

2. Using cruise control: This is a great way to save the gas. While it also helps in driving it also saves up to 7-10% of your fuel bill.

3. Avoid idling: The car should be turned off any place where you have to keep the car idle for a minute or longer. This can add up a lot to your overall fuel savings.

4. Avoid excessive baggage: Try and remove all excess heavy weight in your car. Every 100 pounds extra in car leads to around 2 percent reduction in the mpg. This is even more for smaller vehicles.

5. Keep engine well maintained: Proper maintenance of the engine helps a lot in having good good mpg. Fixing any serious faults like in the O2 sensor can help increase the mpg up to 40%.

Idling is by far the worst thing. people do not care for putting the car in the idle position for 10 minutes while going to atm or doing some simple chores. this has a huge impact on the fuel efficiency of the car.
