Once the deal is finalized it is time to move on to the paperwork. If you are buying from a dealership they would take care of all the paperwork. The only thing required by you is to check each detail before signing. Also see that the final contract comes out in the way you had negotiated for. When purchasing from a private seller you will have to look to go through following checklist:
1. If your state requires a smog test get it done by the seller.
2. See to it that the registration is current else you can be penalized for it later and will have to pay the late fees.
3. You should get the title commonly called “pink slip” signed by the person selling the car and get all the information recorded properly.(you might also require a transfer of ownership document in some of the states, this is attached to the title)
4. You need to get the bill of sale(pdf file) to be filled out- this will also be helpful if police stop you right after you complete the transaction.
5. Finally you need to pay the sales tax after the registration of the car is over.
6. In the end you need to Activate or update the insurance policy of the car.
Once all the paperwork is completed it is essential to follow the service schedule. These will help your car have a longer life and you can keep them running forever.
